I added a few using real dwarf words, such as Karak Milluz (Enduring a Thousand), Karak Kvinn (Enduring Lady), and Gazan Ghal (Plain of Skulls/Wasteland of Skulls). I had originally assumed that the names were just piecemeal names with the word "Karak" or something at the front to make it sound earthy, and kinda dwarfy. However, at the time I started writing the list I didn't know much about the Dwarf language, Khazalid, nor did I know that pretty much all the canon names are names in Khazalid. I came up with a whole list of names for fictional dwarf holds. I've been reading a lot of stuff on the wiki. Actually I've been obsessed with Warhammer for the better part of a year or so, so I'm not that new. Hi, I'm new- both to this forum and the whole Warhammer thing. I'm not sure of the use of An at the beginning as it is supposed to preceed verbs "he was running with a purpose" etc,Įdited by Alebelly_Cragfist, 14 March 2012 - 03:56 PM. So, you could argue the Hold name means literally both "Unyielding Gate" as well as "Unbroken Promise" (which is very very sexy!) You could then use Grimbarazi as Keepers of the Unyeilding Gate for an elite unit. It encapsulates much of what you want, I think. So Karak Grimbaraz = 'Hold of the Unyeliding Gate' a very proud name for a Hold and very Dawi. a HoldĪn (preceeding) signifies doing something with a purposeīar = gate in this case acting as metaphor - a Dawi gate is sturdy, in the same way that Beard (Gorm) can equate to Dwarf, Bar (gate) would equate with well made/stury as a concept to Dawi minds. Karak Angrimbaraz? (Karak An-Grim-Bar-Az) or Karak GrimbarazĪz signifies it's a physical "thing" i.e. There's nothing in there that signifies Sturdy Dawi though. would make for a hardcore regiment of renown! The Anbarazkuli - Oathmasters! Consider that yoinked (edit: Barazul / Barazkuli, Art of Oathmaking / Oathmaster) Grobkul = the art of killing Gobbos)Īn - can be used alone or to preceed another wordĪnbarazul - which would mean something like 'the art of making purposeful promises" or maybe more poetically Oathmastery. Ul/kul - signifies mastery of, or the art of (i.e. I wouldn't necessarily say it means what you're hoping. Karak Uxgoruzi ? Mountain of the Minotaur! (The Minotaur Hold)Įdited by Alebelly_Cragfist, 14 March 2012 - 10:35 AM. I like the fact that 'gor' is in there, nice and horn-like. If you wanted Minotaur, you could go with "Horned Ox", aka Oxgoruzi or Uxgoruzi (I prefer the sound of the 2nd, personally). That said Ori means work, so Oxi/Uxi as a derrivative of Ori has a nice link "Ori - to work" "Oxi/Uxi - beast of burdon"? Old Norse for Ox was Oxi and/or Uxi, although the 'i' signifier at the end may well indicate a name of a Dwarf. Not sure what Ox is in Khazalid, couldn't find anything close. Kazad Drakk - Dragon Fort / Fort Dragon / Fort of the Dragon You can then pick a noun such as Drakk (Dragon), so You can be from a mountain/stronghold (Karak) or volcano (Karag) area, a fort (Kazad) etc etc. I still consider this one of my favorite projects that I worked on as it was the one where I first learned and used procedural generation. It all depends on your aspirations. This led me to publish it and move on to other projects. Eventually I felt that working on it made me waste more time trying to refactor it and make things work than actually learning more about procedural generation. Unfortunately, due to my lack of knowledge and good code practices, typical in someone that's starting to learn programming, the code grew to become poorly organized and poorly planned making working on it harder and harder. I kept working on it and adding new things as I found more and more interesting things to do with procedural generation. It began as just a prototype and a learning experience to learn more about python and more importantly about procedural generation. This project was developed during the summer holidays of my first year of college. df-style-worldgen uses Andux's modified version of the CP866 tileset. More information is visible on the side console that displays Civ name, Civ race, Civ government form and each month display all sites and their population.ĭf-style-worldgen is written in python and uses the libtcod API. zip and extract folder.Īfter opening pyWorld it generates a new map for you and displays the Biome Map ModeĬurrently only Civ expansion is generated. It generates 2D worlds with multiple map modes and eventually simulate civilizations, gods and beasts and their history. Df-style-worldgen is a 2D fantasy world generator inspired by Dwarf Fortress.
